Conditional Formatting

Conditional formatting enables you to apply a style to the chart when the data meets certain criteria that are defined in a condition (best viewed in a table). For example, you can highlight the rows where the total number of orders exceeds 500 units. You can set the condition by selecting the target column, the operator, and the value that defines the condition. You can apply the formatting to the entire row or any column in the table, highlighted by changing the foreground (Text) or background (Cell), or border color.

format

To add a condition, expand the Conditional Formatting section and select + Add Condition. A new Condition section is added with an auto-assigned label Condition n, where n is a sequentially generated number. Select the section to expand it. You can apply formatting elements as needed.

  • To change the foreground color, use the color picker next to Text Color. This has not been changed in the example.
  • To change the background color, use the color picker next to Cell Color. This has been set to lime green in the example.
  • You can highlight your selected area by outlining its border or have the highlight color fill the area from the Style selector. The Filled style has been selected in the example.
  • You can apply a custom Label to the condition to identify it among multiple conditions. The example condition is High Orders.
  • The criteria is Sum of Orders > 500.
    • Column has been set to quantityOrdered (SUM)
    • Operator has been set to Greater than
    • Value has been set to 500.
  • This style has been applied to the row (Apply this style to the Entire Row). You can also select one of the columns used in the chart.

format

As you make changes, you can see the changes applied to the chart on the canvas. You can add any number of conditional formats to a chart. You can switch chart types and retain the set condition, as long as it is supported by the selected chart.
